Adventure days.

Adventure Days are the days we leave the four walls — to the library, the pool, the park, the streets — and let the studio test itself in a different container. Some are walking trips, some need transport, some require liability forms. The Adventure Day Planner (a mission role) leads logistics with the guide; the studio designs the experience.

01

The starting lineup

Three Adventure Days that are pre-confirmed for this year's BTT arc. Add more as the studio invents them.

// adventure 01 · walking trip · low logistics

Library Day

The plan: Walk to the nearest public library. Each learner finds and checks out one book. Quiet reading time in the library. Walk back.

Why it works: Reinforces Read-Along and DEAR culture. Makes "books from the library" a real practice, not an abstract idea. The walk itself is a tribe-building event.

What's needed

When to schedule

Week 2 or Week 3 works well — the studio has rhythm and trust by then. Avoid Week 1 (too new). Avoid Week 6 (exhibition prep).

Lorem ipsum — confirm the closest library, walking route, library card sign-up process for parents.
// adventure 02 · school-wide · medium logistics

Acton Games — school-wide Olympics

The plan: School-wide event. All studios participate. Teams might be mixed-age (D2 + Spark + D1 + Exploration) or studio-vs-studio. Range of events from physical (relays, tug-of-war) to intellectual (trivia, building challenges) to creative (skits, song parodies).

Why it works: The mixed-age role-modeling thread gets lived, not just talked about. D2 holds the bridge position. School-wide event becomes part of the year's mythology.

What's needed

When to schedule

Anywhere from Week 3 to Week 5. Coordinates with other studios. Could also be repeated mid-year as a school tradition.

Lorem ipsum — coordinate with Mo + all studio guides on the planning committee. Pull from any prior Acton Games run docs.
// adventure 03 · pool day · heavy logistics

Cardboard Boat Pool Day

The plan: Multi-week project. Studio designs, builds, and decorates cardboard boats during Quest blocks. Final test day: a real pool. Each boat is tested with a learner inside. Whoever floats wins. Whoever sinks gets the most cheers.

Why it works: Real engineering. Real consequences (the boats actually sink or float). Real shared memory. Last year's run was a huge hit.

What's needed

The arc

Lorem ipsum — check with Pedro for last year's liability form, supply list, pool venue, and lessons learned. He's been through this.

Other ideas (not yet committed)

Floating possibilities. Bring to Town Hall for studio input.

Walking museum trip

If a museum is reachable on foot. Local history, science, art. Each learner picks one exhibit to "host" to the rest of the studio.

Park study day

Whole day at a park. Drawing, journaling, free play, picnic lunch. Studio's choice of which park.

Community service day

Pick a cause as a studio. Volunteer for half a day. Debrief on what changed.

Hike day

Easy local trail. Pair-walking. Quiet reflection sections. Snacks at the summit.

Restaurant / kitchen day

A learner cooks a meal for the studio (with parent help). Or visit a restaurant kitchen.

Studio takeover

Visit another Acton studio across town. They host us. We host them back.
